Program overview
Welcome to Stride!
We are proud to share that the Stride Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Program has reached the final design milestone for Stride S3 and Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility (formerly called Bus Base North). Final design plans for Stride S1 and S2 are currently expected to be completed later this year, though timelines may be adjusted based on project needs. This online open house will help you learn about the transportation improvements coming to cities surrounding Lake Washington.

Stride BRT is coming to you starting in 2028 and 2029!
Stride BRT is a new regional transit service operating mostly in dedicated transit lanes serving communities north, east, and south of Lake Washington. With connections to Link light rail and other transit services, Stride creates another way for riders to travel across the region.
Stride’s high-capacity transit system includes new bus lanes and transit priority improvements, which will help riders avoid traffic.

What is Stride?
Stride BRT will provide fast, frequent, and reliable transit service to communities throughout the Puget Sound region. New bus lanes and transit infrastructure improvements will help riders avoid traffic. Your Stride experience will be similar to Link light rail, where you can simply show up to a station and expect a bus to show up shortly.

Sound Transit’s first battery-electric bus fleet
Stride buses will be Sound Transit’s first battery-electric bus fleet. Stride will be the first program in North America to use this technology for double-decker buses.
Transit connections and parking
With connections to light rail and to communities north, east, and south of Lake Washington, Stride will transform your regional transportation options. Sound Transit will share station areas with King County Metro, Community Transit, and other local transit services for easy transfers and connections across the region.

Stride stations
Stride stations will feature unique branding to make them stand out from other bus stops in the region. Your Stride experience will include longer platforms, ticket vending machines, off-board payment, real-time arrival displays, and more!
How did we reach Stride’s final design?
Sound Transit has come a long way since the planning phase started in 2018. You may have seen project updates at various milestones during the design phase—10%, 30%, 60%, and now 100% design—that are associated with a general level of design “completeness.” We worked with the public to collect feedback and address concerns at project milestones.

Stride through your city!
Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility

The Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility in the Canyon Park area of Bothell will support the operations of the Stride system and provide a location to store, clean, maintain, and repair buses.
Stride S1

The Stride S1 Line will connect communities along I-405 and SR 518 from Bellevue to Burien. Design updates include Bellevue, Renton, Tukwila, and Burien.
Stride S2

The Stride S2 Line will connect communities along I-405 and I-5 from Bellevue to Lynnwood. Design updates include Bellevue, Kirkland, Bothell, and Lynnwood.
Stride S3

The Stride S3 Line will serve growing north Lake Washington communities from Shoreline and Seattle to Bothell. Design updates include Shoreline and Seattle, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore, and Bothell.
Construction
We are now entering the construction phase. Sound Transit is advertising the project contracts for bidding, and the bidding phase will continue through 2025.

What’s happening next?
Soon, contractors will be selected to help build Stride and we will work to develop a detailed construction schedule. Later this year, Stride will also have a 24/7 construction hotline to answer any immediate construction concerns.
